Do you know how often clients tell me things like …
- “My gut hurts thinking about it”?
- “That doesn’t sound like I could do it”?
- “I don’t think my guides support that”?
- “That doesn’t feel right to me – I don’t think”?
- “I think that would be very scary”?
- “I’m not sure I can see that for myself at all”?
All of those statements are made with the question mark at the end – or a rising inflection. In other words, they all translate to – Do you really think I could DO that?
Yes. Yes definitely. Yes, I do.
You could do that!
I think you are an incredible human being. A total powerhouse that has no concept of its awesomeness who could do almost any incredible thing that you truly you wanted to and put your mind to.
The real question is why don’t YOU think that?
Fear. That’s why you don’t think you could do it. Or maybe you just have a belief system that needs external validation (i.e. you want someone to tell you categorically that you COULD do that).
TIP: If you do have that kind of belief system, if you need someone to encourage you then don’t rely on some random friend … get yourself a Cheerleader. A person in your life that tells you that you absolutely could do it.
Whether that’s your partner. A psychic intuitive who says, “That looks really good actually, think about this bit here … and then go for it” or a life-coach who encourages you to be accountable – it doesn’t matter who they are — just that they push you to be the best possible version of yourself.
Otherwise, you risk dying with your best work unfinished. As Jack Canfield the incredible co-author of Chicken Soup for the Soul said, “If we’re not a little bit uncomfortable every day, we’re not growing …”
Do you want to miss all the good stuff? It’s pretty much all outside of your comfort zone. So the next time you feel uncomfortable, the next time the thought of doing something makes your stomach hurt – That is a darn good reason to DO IT!
It doesn’t mean that it’s a good reason to put it off. It means it is a great reason to get on with that new project. Take that risk.
Do some research, find out some facts and take some action.
Stop making excuses and at the very least look into it properly.
Do you really want to end up like some dreary 19th-century poet making excuses at the end of your life or do you want to be proud of your achievements? If you want to be proud you need to take some risks. No, don’t risk your house or your sanity but there is a middle-ground where you accept a certain amount of minor fear or discomfort to achieve the things you really want in your life.
Whether it’s asking the cute guy out for lunch,
or launching that business idea
or creating that amazing course that you’ve always thought would sell well AND help people
or self-publishing your book
Just do it. Now.
If you don’t that dreary 19th-century poet will resonate with you far too much in your future. And no-one wants that!
From too much love of living,
Swinburne (one of the dreary 19th C poets – although actually I quite like him ๐
From hope and fear set free,
We thank with brief thanksgiving
Whatever gods may be
That no life lives for ever;
That dead men rise up never;
That even the weariest river
Winds somewhere safe to sea
