So unexpectedly, we have a novella. Well, not that unexpectedly because I’m a woman of my word. In the free bonus epilogue to Ties that Bond in Gretna Green I made an offer. You might call it a bribe—but I couldn’t possibly comment. I said if my readers would be kind enough to help me by leaving reviews, then I would write them an extra free short story.
Being my amazing readers, of course they over-delivered. So I thought I would too. Instead of a short story, I found myself writing a quite lengthy novella 😂
It’s called House Party in Gretna Green and is fun, silly and mood-lifting. And who doesn’t need their mood lifting in the final days of summer as we close in on autumn with its darker nights and shorter days?
I also hoped it might help all my Voracious Readers to stay sane while they waited for Seeing Red in Gretna Green to be published.
But we need it on Amazon!
Then I learned that are several reasons people would rather get the book free through Amazon than free through BookFunnel. There was a longer explanation in the August newsletter, but here are the highlights.
It turns out a surprising number of my readers have sight issues and use Alexa to read their Kindle books to them. But apparently it only works if they’ve got the book through Amazon.
Some other readers have had problems getting the free books onto their Kindles and use the ‘Read in your browser’ option from Book Funnel. (The people who deliver your free bonus epilogues to you on my behalf.) And that’s great for a chapter or two. But it’s not the way they’d choose to read an entire novella.
I had a lot of requests to just put it in Kindle Unlimited and/or make it cheap or free, but to please put it on Amazon.
So, I’ve looked into it. I can’t put it in Kindle Unlimited and make it free. It’s an either/or thing. But I can set the lowest possible price, which would be 99p/99c AND put it in Kindle Unlimited. Then after a few weeks (perhaps a month?) KU will give me the option to do a promotion when I can make it free.
So House Party in Gretna Green is an official part of the Midlife Recorder series. BUT It may not always be. I’d like to add in some other short stories that I’ve written or plan to write and re-publish it as a longer book. Then we could all have a paperback version if we wished. So make sure you have your own copy, which you’ll always be able to keep, and ideally grab it while it’s free.
I’ll also use the free promotion period as often as Amazon allows me to, to make the book free three or four times a year. For at least the next couple of years.
So it’s here for you now, with my thanks and much love
Linzi
What’s it About?
After completing all the bondings in Ties that Bond, Niki finds herself with a few days respite before her departure for the Red Celt realm to stay with Prince Dai.
But. her plans take an unexpected turn when she discovers that Dola’s 1400th birthday is just around the corner—on Sunday, to be exact.
Niki is determined to make the celebration special. Yet, orchestrating festivities for Dola—a sentient house with spying Dolinas scattered throughout the realms—without giving away the secret proves to be quite the challenge.
To navigate this delicate situation, Niki calls upon her Knight Adjutants and a mix of old and new friends to help distract Dola and gather gifts.
This feel-good novella celebrates the joy of connection and community. Sadly, it doesn’t feature a single doughnut … but there is cake. And magical candles.
Join the party at Gateway Cottage – where the real surprise is the power of true belonging.
House Party fits between Ties that Bond and Seeing Red in Gretna Green. It’s a fun little slice of
cakelife.
Why didn’t I know about this novella?
There’s always a full update in my latest newsletter. If you don’t already subscribe to it, you should. It has magic and free stuff and people say it’s interesting. Click here to do that.
If you hate newsletters (even though people say mine are interesting and never full of ‘Buy my Book’ annoyances) you can also check this page which has my latest information.
I feel bad now — I didn’t leave a review. Can I still get it?
Of course. Just imagine that all the readers who left a review paid it forward on your behalf to get me to write this novella.
But if you’d like more extra stories, perhaps you’ll leave a review on the next book when it publishes?
Because, yes, I’ll be begging again. 🤦♀️
Reviews are ridiculously important in the Amazon store. You don’t have to write an essay. A simple one-line review is all you need to leave to help me. I’m truly grateful for all of them. 🥰
And of course, it should always be your own opinion. There is NO requirement about what your review should say that’s completely up to you.
